FAQ’s
- Is Faith Christian School accredited?
Accreditation for non-public schools is issued by a private organization such as the Association of Christian Schools International. Faith Christian School has chosen to be recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education as an Approved School. State approved schools are required to follow standards established by the state. Schools that choose not to pursue state approval are considered “Church Exempt” schools. - What are your teachers’ qualifications?
Faith Christian School requires that its academic staff hold, at minimum, a BA or BS in education or in the field in which they are teaching such as English or Math. A number of our staff are either currently pursuing or have already attained their graduate degrees. Teachers are not required to attend Hilltop Assembly of God, but are required to be regular church attenders and profess a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. - What grades does Faith Christian School serve?
Faith Christian School is proud to serve students from pre-school through 12th grade. - What are the hours of the school day?
K-12: Students in these grades may begin arriving at school at 8:20. Students are considered tardy after 8:35.
Dismissal begins at 3:00 and goes until 3:15. Students still at the school after 3:15 will be sent to our after school care program. - Do you provide before and after school care?
Yes. Before care is offered from 7:00-8:20 and after care is offered from 3:15-6:00. Parents should be advised that before and after care is not offered on days that school is not in session. If you need aftercare on days that school is not in session, we work with ABC Care. You may contact them for their information. - What is your teacher to student ratio?
Statistics show that students who study in smaller classes perform better in school and are more likely to attend college and do well. In light of this, FCS is committed to maintaining small class sizes. FCS will keep its classes to a maximum of 15 students. Currently the average class size is 10. - Does FCS offer half day or full day kindergarten?
In order to meet the needs of our parents, FCS provides a full day kindergarten program. - Do your middle school students take high school classes?
Middle school students who meet the required prerequisites are able to take English I, Spanish I and algebra I in 8th grade. - Do your students take AP/College level courses?
Students who meet the required prerequisites are able to take AP courses. High school seniors are able to be dually enrolled at FCS and Carroll Community College. Students can earn up to 12 college credits during their senior year. - Does FCS teach Assemblies of God doctrine?
While Hilltop Assembly of God is the legal head of FCS, we do not teach Assembly of God doctrine. It is our belief that doctrine should be taught in the home and in the child’s church. We teach Biblical principals to our students. Students who have doctrinal questions are referred to their parents or their pastors. Doctrinal issues might be baptism, communion, worship styles, etc. Biblical principals are salvation through faith in Christ, Jesus is the Savior, the Bible is the Word of God and teaches us how to live, etc. - Must I or my child attend a church in order to attend FCS?
No, students from all backgrounds are welcome to attend FCS. - Do students wear uniforms?
Yes, students wear uniforms that are purchased through Land’s End. Parents may also purchase good quality used uniforms for a minimal fee. Information on uniforms can be found on our website at: http://www.faith-christian-school.com/parent-resources/dress-code/ - How do your students perform on standardized testing?
While each child is looked at as an individual learner, as a whole our students perform very well on the standardized tests. As a school we are consistently in at least the 80th percentile.
