Teachers

Mrs. Karen Bates – Pre-kindergarten

Mrs. Bates holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development and Family Relations. She is the mother of three. She has taught pre-k at the Chatauqua Institute in New York and at other centers in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Bates joined the staff of FCS in 2010.

Mrs. Norma Conway – Kindergarten

Mrs. Conway earned an Associates of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from Harimon College. She continued her education earning a BS in Elementary Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College in New York. After graduation Mrs. Conway was employed at Rise West School for emotionally and physically handicapped students. She also worked with autistic children at St. Dominick’s School in Sharkhill, New York. Mrs. Conway worked for the Carroll County Public Schools as a learning support faciliator before joining the FCS family in 2000.

Mrs. Nancy Smith – First Grade

Mrs. Smith is an honors graduate of Towson State University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA, as well as Kappa Delta Phi and as a Presidential Scholar. She holds a BS in Elementary Education. Mrs. Smith has served as a long term substitute for Eldersburg Elementary School as well as short term service to many other Carroll County Public Schools. Mrs. Smith was hired as FCS’s first grade teacher in 1996 and has served failthfully in that position since that time.

Mrs. Jennifer Whalen – Second Grade

Mrs. Whalen is a 2008 graduate of Lee University where she earned her BA in elementary education. She taught 5th grade in Greece with a teacher exchange program from January – May 2009. Mrs. Whalen joined the staff of Faith Christian School in 2009 as our 3 year old class’s pre-school teacher and middle school Bible. Mrs. Whalen moved to 2nd grade in 2010

Mrs. Anne Howard – Third Grade

Mrs. Howard is a graduate of Towson University. She holds a BS in Elementary Education. She completed her Masters in Education: Curriculum and Instruction at Western Maryland College. Mrs. Howard taught in Christian schools in Howard and Montgomery counties before coming to FCS in 2000.

Mrs. Wendi Bangerd – Fourth Grade

Mrs. Bangerd is a graduate of Towson State University where she received her BS in Early Childhood Education. She is currently pursuing her Master of Science as a Reading Specialist at McDaniel and will have her degree completed by the end of 2012. Mrs. Bangerd has experience teaching in Carroll county Public Schools as well as Faith Christian School. Her experience includes teaching kindergarten, third grade, fourth grade and art.   Mrs. Bangerd began teaching 4th grade at FCS in 2003.

Mrs. Linda Renner – Fifth Grade

Mrs. Renner is a graduate of Gaithersburg H.S. were she graduated 2nd in her class. She is a graduate of Western Maryland College where she earned a degree in Art History. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In 1990 she received her certificate in education. Mrs. Renner has worked as a substitute for the Carroll County Public Schools as well as on federal grants.  From 1994-1995 Mrs. Renner served as the assistant director of Sylvan Learning Center in Westminster. Mrs. Renner has been at FCS since 1995.

Mrs. Colleen Muhl – Middle School/High School Math
Secondary School Lead Teacher

Mrs. Muhl earned her Associates of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from Catonsville Community College in 1993. She continued her undergraduate education at Towson State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in secondary education. In 1998, she received her standard professional teaching certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education for English in grades seven through twelve. In 2003, Mrs. Muhl also received her advanced professional certification in mathematics. She is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Math for Secondary Education through Governor’s University and will complete that in December 2011.  Mrs. Muhl began teaching at Faith Christian School as the third grade teacher in 1997. Since then, she has taught English and math classes in the middle school grades. In 2001, Mrs. Muhl left FCS to gain experience as an adult educator and family literacy director in the Carroll County Public School System. She returned to Faith in 2003 to resume a position teaching middle school math. In 2004, she implemented a home school program at Faith Christian School for high school-aged students. She served as assistant principal from 2005-2009 and returned to the classroom full time in 2009. She currently serves as our lead middle school teacher.

Mrs. Debra Lucado – Middle School/High School Science

Mrs. Lucado earned a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Liberal Arts with concentrations in English and Education from Radford University in 2001. She is Maryland certified in Early Childhood, Elementary and Middle School Education. Her most recent experience was 2002-2005 teaching at Randallstown Elementary School. She returned to teaching after being a stay at home mom to her two daughters. Mrs. Lucado joined the staff of Faith Christian School in 2009.

Mr. Josh Czufin-Middle School/High School History

Mr. Czufin is a 2007 graduate of Salisbury University where he earned a BA in Philosophy. He is currently pursuing his Graduate Degree in Science for Secondary Education and will be moving to teach in the science field in the coming year.  Mr. Czufin was actively involved with Campus Crusade for Christ where he lead both the drama team and weekly Bible studies. Mr. Czufin has also served as the music ministry leader at his home church. Mr. Czufin joined the FCS staff in 2008. He regularly leads worship in our weekly chapel service

Mrs. Kathleen Reese-Middle School/High School English

Mrs. Reese is a 2010 graduate of Ashford University.  She earned a BA in Social Science with a concentration in Education.  She began teaching at FCS in the fall of 2010.

Rev. Brian Smith – Middle School/High School Bible

Pastor Brian holds a degree in Bible and Pastoral Ministries from Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo.  He has served as youth pastor at New Life Assembly of God in Charleston, SC and at Hilltop Assembly of God.  He has taught Bible at Cincinnati Christian High School and Evangel Christian School.  Pastor Brian has been teaching Bible at FCS since 2006 and was the chapel instructor before that time.
